— City and County of Honolulu: Iwilei, Kalihi, Kapālama, Liliha, Punchbowl and Pu‘unui road repaving project —

Mayor Kirk Caldwell announced that on Monday, July 18, 2016, a city contractor will begin work repaving residential, feeder, and secondary streets in the areas of Iwilei, Kalihi, Kapālama, Liliha, Punchbowl and Pu’unui. This is the latest project under Mayor Caldwell’s comprehensive road repaving program for the City and County of Honolulu. Since the beginning of 2013 the city has repaved more than 1,136 lane miles across O’ahu, on pace to exceed Mayor Caldwell’s goal of repaving 1,500 substandard lane miles within five years.

This latest project will total over 90 lane miles at a cost of $18.3 million. Roadwork will begin in the Kuakini, Liliha and Pu’unui area. Crews will work between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with possible weekend construction. Barring weather related delays, the project is scheduled to be completed in about nine months.

The contract includes the pre-construction inspection of manholes and documenting their locations; tree inspections; removal of worn-out pavement; and the resurfacing or reconstruction of asphalt concrete pavement. Additional activities include tree pruning and/or removal of trees identified by the city arborist; adjustment of utility manhole frames and covers; reconstruction of damaged concrete curbs and gutters; installation of pavement markers, striping and markings; and installation of vehicle detector loops.

Drivers should anticipate delays and are reminded to observe and obey all traffic controls, posted signs and special duty police officers. On-street parking will be prohibited during working hours.

PLEASE OBSERVE THE DATES AND TIMES ON POSTED ROADWAY SIGNS.

Illegally parked vehicles will be towed, if necessary, at the owner’s expense. Drivers are advised to proceed with caution through construction areas. Local residential traffic, deliveries, and trash collection will be allowed during construction hours.
